Introducing Osmanthe Oud Huanghou – an exquisite scent composition inspired by the royal elegance and refinement of the empresses in Chinese history. Named after “Huanghou” which is the Chinese word for empress, Osmanthe Oud Huanghou precisely captures the true essence of ancient Chinese royalty and regal sophistication, from the very beginning of the process which involves the meticulous selection and development of top-notch raw materials, to the last step of the blending process where all these regal materials are harmoniously blended with great finesse which then let aged and matured like fine wines to improve its performance and achieve a rounded, refined final blend. As with the previous members of the Imperial Oud Collection, Osmanthe Oud Huanghou features our proprietary melange of fine artisanal oud oils that is specially developed just for this particular scent composition to suit its olfactory profile. Among these wonderful artisanal oud oils, we introduced a specially curated rare batch of finely aged vintage wild Chinese (Hainanese) and Cambodian oud, well supported by a good mix of some real-deal fine oud from other regions. Other than that, we also introduced a batch of custom-distilled green kynam oil which beautifully incorporated into the olfactory structure much needed for this composition. As the name of the scent suggests, Osmanthe Oud Huanghou also features osmanthus flower, in particular, golden osmanthus. In the context of Chinese culture and history, osmanthus flower is regarded as a divine flower born on the Moon and has been culturally connected to a number of Chinese mythology and folklore. During the time where imperial examinations were held, it was customary for examinees to pluck a sprig of blooming osmanthus flower which symbolized good luck and success in the exams that opened the path to their future careers. Due to its cultural significance as well as its much-loved captivating fragrance, osmanthus flower is one of the indispensable species found within the compound of Chinese royal palaces and imperial gardens. In this scent composition, we meticulously curated a selection of natural golden osmanthus extracts from a few Chinese provinces across the central and southwest regions which are known for their secluded, well-maintained golden osmanthus gardens. The golden osmanthus blossoms in their peak fragrant state during the process of florescence were harvested from old osmanthus trees tucked away in the mountains, which were then freshly extracted by employing a number of different types of extraction technology and methods respectively. These golden osmanthus extracts, when combined in a specific ratio, result in a vivid, multi-layered, three-dimensional golden osmanthus accord that evocatively reminds us of the fresh blooming osmanthus blossoming throughout the imperial gardens that fills the air with its rich, sweet, mesmerizing scent. This customized golden osmanthus accord when paired with our proprietary artisanal oud and kynam oil melange creates a beautiful effect that goes in the same vein as the classical Chinese aesthetics and styles, as if we were transported to a royal banquet at the imperial garden hosted by the empress herself during the osmanthus season. This effect is even amplified with the addition of our secret mix of traditional Chinese aromatic herbs that gives the blend an eccentric, mysterious, unique twist. To further enliven the scent composition, we introduced into the blend extracts of some very old vintage “chen pi”, which is the aged mandarin orange peel, and “fo shou”, a type of citron that resembles the buddha’s hand. On top of that, for a nice play of contrasts, oakmoss, white sandalwood, orris butter, honey, infusions of finely aged ambergris and musk were added to further enrich and complete this classically-inspired, full-bodied, sophisticated scent composition, making Osmanthe Oud Huanghou truly a bona fide fragrance made to unleash the royalty within you.
Due to the nature and quality of the raw materials used, the scent will continue to age beautifully in the bottle with time when properly stored. A whopping 40% concentration of pure perfume oil in this extrait provides the most luxurious experience while remains easy to use at the same time. It is normal to have some sediments/separations in this scent due to the nature of the raw materials used. Just gently shake well before applying it.
