Introducing Oud Higanbana, this scent composition is inspired by Lycoris radiata, the striking red spider lily known in Japanese as “higanbana”. The flower takes its name from “higan”, a Buddhist observance held around the autumnal equinox. The word itself means “the other shore”, implying the boundary between the world of the living and the realm beyond. In Japanese culture, “higanbana” is often associated with remembrance, ephemerality and the cycle of life. Its vivid scarlet petals, unfurling on bare stems before its leaves emerge, lend the flower an aura of haunting, surreal beauty. The composition unfolds around a fantasy accord of “higanbana”, creatively constructed to evoke the flower’s vivid, otherworldly beauty through scent. At its heart lies a floral triad of red osmanthus, boronia and Japanese lily, forming a rich and distinctive core for the “higanbana” accord. A subtle metallic edge runs through the bouquet, giving an olfactory impression of the striking, blood-red petals and spidery filaments of the flower. Meanwhile, Japanese sansho pepper and yuzu introduce an electric burst of zesty, peppery freshness, heightening the fragrance’s vivid contrasts and capturing the bold, enigmatic charisma of “higanbana”. These artisanal oud oils are complemented by Mysore white sandalwood, orris butter and a smooth, addictive blend of animalic materials, including civet, castoreum, ambergris and musk. Together, they lend the composition interesting textures and layers of sophistication, while also suggesting the contemplative atmosphere of Japanese temple incense. Due to the nature and quality of the raw materials used, the scent will continue to age beautifully in the bottle with time when properly stored. A whopping 40% concentration of pure perfume oil in this extrait provides the most luxurious experience while remains easy to use at the same time. A little goes a long way. It is normal to have some sediments/separations in this scent due to the nature of the raw materials used. Just gently shake well before applying it.
