Inspired by the poetry written by one of the greatest poets of the Tang Dynasty, Bai Juyi, Song of Everlasting Sorrow depicts the love story between Emperor Illustrious August and his most beloved concubine Noble Lady Yang. Song of Everlasting Sorrow tells a mournfully beautiful tale of a bittersweet love. It portrays a hauntingly romantic chronicle that has been told until today. Not only our work pays homage to this literary masterpiece dated c.806CE, this scent also features many significant symbols and materials dating back to the Tang Dynasty.
Be it those fresh lychee trees that the Emperor had demanded them to be delivered from the southern region to the imperial palace in the shortest time for his loved one, or those pear blossoms that bloomed within the imperial pear orchard where the Emperor himself had composed music for her and watched her dancing along, Song of Everlasting Sorrow opens with both of the symbolic notes that represent the two protagonists respectively. As the scent further unfurls, notes of white tea and mulberry leaf start to kick in, leaving a bitter impression which contrasts with the other sweet opening notes, aptly portraying the bittersweet love story between the Emperor and the Noble Lady. At the heart, an elegant bouquet of peony, chinese rose, geranium and everlasting flower begins to bloom, bringing to mind the image of the imperial garden of that time – grandiose, lavish, out of this world, while ginger, sandalwood and agarwood (oud) add extra dimensions to the heart of this scent. One uniqueness of this scent is the introduction of the imperial incense of the Tang Dynasty in the form of liquid extrait. We took the original recipe of the historic imperial incense and transformed it into a unique accord. As this accord gradually reveals itself, one is taken back in time and gets to witness all those fragrant moments spent together by the Emperor and the Noble Lady. Not only we directly sourced many rarely found, exclusively customized raw materials across the globe to create this sophisticated accord, it also requires a very different approach and blending technique specially developed by us to complete the accord as well as the overall composition.
It is normal to have some sediments in this scent due to the nature of the raw materials used. Just gently shake well before applying it.
